Education of the elderly has a chance to become a phenomenon of the 21st century. Polish society, like other European and developed countries, is aging faster (GUS forecasts that in 2050 old people will constitute about 40% of the population in Poland). The level of education of the older population also increases proportionally. Leisure Adjustments of Older Finnish Adults during the Early Stages of the COVID-19 Pandemic

The current approach to “aging well” emphasizes the importance of active leisure participation in late adulthood. This relates to the view that leisure activities enable older adults to stay physically, mentally, and socially active, and they thereby contribute to wellbeing. In spring 2020, leisure activity engagement was significantly hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic. This study explores leisure-related experiences and adaptation strategies among Finnish older adults during the period of strict physical distancing. The study aimed to investigate the role of social activities, social networks as well as socioeconomic status (SES) in influencing some aspects of cognitive functioning (immediate and delayed verbal recall tests and semantic verbal fluency) in elderly people over time. This analysis was conducted on a sample of 31,954 healthy elderly people (58% female, mean age 65.54 ± 9.74) interviewed in both the fourth and sixth waves of the Survey on Health, Aging and Retirement in Europe (SHARE), in 2011 and 2015. Algunos estudios indican que los programas universitarios para mayores pueden tener un impacto positivo en la autopercepción del apoyo social y la salud de los participantes. Sin embargo, dichos estudios no evalúan estas variables con instrumentos de medida estandarizados y grupos de control dentro y fuera del programa. En el presente trabajo se utilizó un grupo experimental y dos grupos control que fueron evaluados en dos momentos con instrumentos estandarizados.
